Haydn is the runner in blue in the foreground, about 30 metres from the Parkrun finish line this morning. Behind him is Richard L, striving to catch up, panting heavily, but he headed me off on the final stretch. We finished the 5 km run in 24:18 and 24:22 respectively. My best time since October 2019. My 84th Parkrun.

Wanaka, January, 2022
I went for a run during our holiday in Wanaka in January this year, and passed a man, also running, in the other direction, who looked familiar. I stopped 15 metres past him - 'Phil? Phil Somerville?'. It was, and he recognized me. It was a happy reunion of friendship after many years. We met a couple of times, and agreed to run the Lake Wanaka Park Run together. Here we are, towards the end. It's a beautiful course, alongside the lake in the direction of Glendhu Bay.
For Afghan families and friends
I ran my own half marathon on Sunday, 13 March, 2022, to support a Give-a-Little-Page to help people from Afghanistan get to New Zealand. From our place, along Wairerere Drive to the University of Waikato and back. Gill was my support team! Thank you!

14 August 2022 100 miles for Arch Jelley, on his 100th birthday
Arch Jelley - 100 years oldTo honour and celebrate the 100th birthday of legendary New Zealand running coach, Arch Jelley, all the adults in our family, with grandchildren as a support crew, joined the 'One hundred Miles Relay for Arch', at the Oraiwaka Athletics Lovelock Track in Mt Roskill, Auckland. The day started with karakia at 7.00am. The fastest runner in our family, Chris, took the baton for us and we all ran or walked for one mile, around 9.15am. Around 100 runners will have run 100 miles in total by the end of today.
Arch himself walked one of the 100 miles (4 x 440 yards) at 9.30am, with a large entourage which included some famous names in New Zealand running, such as Jeff Julian.
What an honour - to run on the same track as Peter Snell and many other runners and to explore the photos in the clubrooms of the Oraiwaka Athletics Club, founded by Arthur Lydiard.
